Kingston uses early goal to top Wellington, 2-0

The Kingston Voyageurs took the lead against the Wellington Dukes in the first period and maintained it until the end of the game to secure a tight 2-0 victory.

Graham Yeo provided Kingston with the game-winning tally when he scored 1:27 into the the first period. Francesco Vilardi picked up the assist.

Brandon O'Neil frustrated Wellington's offense all game, and stopped 32 shots en route to a shutout. The solid play of O'Neil will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.64.

The Dukes' power play was ineffective against the Voyageurs' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Kingston excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. The Voyageurs' defensive play was more effective than usual against Wellington. Kingston allows 2.7 goals per game. The Voyageurs' offense rang up 45 shots on the Dukes' net.

Ludlow Harris also scored for Kingston. More assists for Kingston came via David Quesnele, who had one and Brian Nanne, who had two.

Wellington's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Kingston power plays. The Dukes could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Wellington averages 3.0 goals per game. The Dukes' offense rang up 32 shots on Kingston's net.

The Voyageurs incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Wellington's Matt Larose stopped 43 shots out of the 45 that he faced. The Dukes incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
