Doiron's big game bests Cobourg in 6-3 Pickering winCobourg Community Centre Mon, Nov 05, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
Cody Doiron had one goal and three assists to lead the Pickering Panthers to a 6-3 victory over the Cobourg Cougars. Doiron scored on the power play 8:58 into the second period to make the score 5-1 Pickering. Pickering earned a power play opportunity when Rylee McKinnon was put in the box for holding. Andrew McCann picked up the assist. Doiron dished an assist on Carlos Amestoy's goal that made the score 1-0 Pickering at 2:24 into the first period. He then added assists on Matt Galati's goal at 15:32 into the first and on McCann's goal at 8:36 into the second.The Panthers pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 12 penalty minutes. Pickering outdid its season average for goals scored. This season, the Panthers average 3.0 goals per contest. Pickering cashed in on power play opportunities, scoring three goals on four chances. The Panthers' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals. Pickering additionally got points from McCann, who also had one goal and one assist and Galati, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Pickering also got a goal from Micah Nichols as well. More assists for Pickering came via Robert Lepine, who had two and Tanner Bull, Brodie Tutton, and Alex Clements, who each chipped in one. Pickering was unable to stop Cobourg from sending pucks towards the net, and the Cougars eventually piled up 31 shots on goal. Cobourg was helped by Mark MacAulay, who grabbed one goal. MacAulay scored 15:53 into the third period to make the score 5-3 Pickering. Dylan Goddard assisted on the tally. Cobourg also got points from Taylor Gauld, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Corey Helliwell also scored for Cobourg. In addition, Cobourg received assists from Liam Grande APM, Ryan OGrady, Evan Jasper, and Connor Armour, who contributed one a piece. CJ Sharp made 28 saves for the Panthers on 31 shots. Pickering ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Joseph Benvenuto was ejected from the game. Joe Keyser made three saves before being replaced by Jeff Julien, who took the loss and made 10 saves. The Cougars incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
