Buffalo squeaks by Oakville, 3-2Sixteen Mile Sports Complex Sat, Nov 03, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Buffalo Jr. Sabres escaped with a 3-2 victory over the Oakville Blades. Neither team gained more than a one-goal lead, and Tyler Gjurich's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker. Gjurich was all over the ice for Buffalo, as he grabbed two goals in the win. The Jr. Sabres' penalty kill excelled, as Buffalo gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays. The Jr. Sabres stifled Oakville's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Blades were unable to stop Buffalo from sending pucks towards the net, and the Jr. Sabres eventually piled up 32 shots on goal. Buffalo also got a goal from Josh Kielich as well. More assists for Buffalo came via Ben Casale, who had two and Tony DeVito, Ryan Schmelzer, David Seward, and Sean Federow, who each chipped in one. Oakville's offense operated below it season average. The Blades put an average of 4.3 pucks into the net per game. Oakville could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 34 minutes in penalties during the game. The Blades were helped by Len Fabbri, who grabbed one goal. Fabbri scored 16:27 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Oakville. Zach Berg picked up the assist. Eric Chore also scored for Oakville. Other players who recorded assists for Oakville were Kris Bennet, who had one. Parker Gahagen recorded 23 saves for Buffalo. The Jr. Sabres incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. Oakville's Evan Buitenhuis stopped 29 shots out of the 32 that he faced.
