Burlington rips Orangeville, 9-4Alder St. Recreation Centre Sat, Nov 03, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Orangeville Flyers had trouble finding ways to stop the Burlington Cougars, which beat Flyers, 9-4. Jeremy Gottzmann was all over the ice for Burlington, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Gottzmann scored the first of his two goals at 5:55 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Burlington. Tyler VanKleef assisted on the tally. Gottzmann's next tally made the score 3-0 Burlington with 19:02 left in the second period. Cooper Richards picked up the assist. The Cougars forced Orangeville's netminders to work without much rest, racking up 44 shots and forcing 35 saves. Taylor Welsh made 27 stops and Bo Bessette made eight. Burlington outdid its season average for goals scored. This season, the Cougars average 3.8 goals per contest. Burlington also got points from Steven Mueller, who also tallied one goal and two assists, Tyler Lepore, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Adam Glynn, who also racked up one goal and two assists, and VanKleef, who also grabbed two goals and one assist. Alex Landry also scored for Burlington. More assists for Burlington came via Mark Rodgers, who had three and Gavin Shantz, Daniel Campbell, and Luke Sinclair, who contributed one a piece. The Flyers put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Burlington to score on any of its five power plays. Orangeville forced the Cougars goalie Alex Murray to work between the pipes, taking 39 shots. The Flyers were helped by Keegan Ackerland, who registered one goal. Ackerland scored on the power play 10:47 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Burlington. Orangeville had taken the advantage when Burlington's Jack OHara got sent off for roughing. Blake Forslund assisted on the tally. Orangeville additionally got points from Forslund, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Orangeville also got a goal from Ian Nichols as well. In addition, Orangeville received assists from John Doyle, who had two and Bryer Lorenz, Thomas Tsicos, Peter Stepanis, and Matteo Condotta, who each chipped in one. Murray recorded 35 saves for the Cougars. Burlington incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Flyers incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
