The Newmarket Hurricanes tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Whitby Fury would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 4-2. Whitby took a 4-1 lead during the second period, only to have Newmarket storm back on a Calvin Higley goal 15:06 into the third period to pull to two goals down. The Fury were led by Spencer MacCormack, who finished with three goals. Greg Milner also scored for Whitby. More assists for Whitby came via Chris Raguseo, who had three and Jack Lewis, Sam Gray, Taylor Best, and Mike Panowyk, who each chipped in one. The Hurricanes were helped by Daniel Leavens, who racked up one goal. Leavens scored on the power play 10:00 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Newmarket. Newmarket earned a power play opportunity when Kevin Stevens was put in the box for head contact. Travis Dermott picked up the assist. In addition, Newmarket received assists from Austin Rigney and Justin Maiolino, who contributed one a piece. Tyler Feaver recorded 27 saves for Whitby. The Fury incurred 32 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Matthew Wintjes took the loss and made 10 saves before being replaced by Lucas Peressini who made nine saves. The Hurricanes incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Newmarket ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Phil Kiss was ejected from the game.
