Newmarket survives Cobourg comeback, wins 3-2

The Cobourg Cougars tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the Newmarket Hurricanes would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 3-2.

A goal by Taylor Chick put Newmarket up 3-1 in the second period, but Cobourg pulled to within one on Dylan Goddard's tally 16:04 into the third period.

The Hurricanes were sparked by Chick, who tallied one goal. Chick scored 18:29 into the second period to make the score Newmarket. Jeff Murray picked up the assist.

Newmarket's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Cobourg power plays. The Hurricanes forced the Cougars goalie Nathan Perry to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots.

Newmarket also got a goal from Travis Dermott as well. Other players who recorded assists for Newmarket were Sean Walker, Elliott Burlon, and Ian Farrell, who each chipped in one.

Rylee McKinnon also scored for Cobourg. More assists for Cobourg came via Tyler Davey, Corey Helliwell, Conor Carson, and Connor Armour, who contributed one a piece.

Matthew Wintjes made 23 saves for Newmarket on 25 shots. The Hurricanes incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Perry rejected 35 shots on goal for Cobourg. The Cougars incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
