The Burlington Cougars beat the Toronto Junior Canadiens, 4-2, in a contest where the winning goal was scored in the first period but the game remained close throughout. Jeremy Gottzmann provided Burlington with the game-winning tally when he scored 14:47 into the the first period. Steven Mueller assisted on the tally.The Cougars were led by Mark Rodgers, who finished with one goal. Rodgers scored 26 seconds into the second period to make the score 3-1 Burlington. Joe Sullivan picked up the assist. Toronto was unable to stop Burlington from sending pucks towards the net, and the Cougars eventually piled up 37 shots on goal. Burlington could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game. Burlington additionally got points from Luke Sinclair, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Burlington also got a goal from Alex Landry as well. More assists for Burlington came via Cooper Richards and Tyler VanKleef, who contributed one a piece. The Junior Canadiens put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Cougars to score on any of their six power plays. Toronto forced Burlington goalie Alex Murray to work between the pipes, taking 40 shots. The Junior Canadiens were helped by Joseph Santino, who registered one goal. Santino scored 14 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Toronto. Danny Liscio assisted on the tally. Toronto also got points from Liscio, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Toronto received assists from Derek Perl, Adam Logozzo, and Anthony Repaci, who each chipped in one. Murray rejected 38 shots on goal for the Cougars. Denny Dubblestyne recorded 33 saves for Toronto. The Junior Canadiens incurred 22 minutes in penalty time with six minors. For Toronto, Luca Doctor was ejected from the game.
