Carpino's big game bests Mississauga in 7-4 North York win

The North York Rangers' John Carpino had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing two assists in his team's 7-4 win over the Mississauga Chargers.

Carpino scored on the power play at 6:25 into the third period to make the score 6-4 North York and again while 8:42 into the third to make the score 7-4 North York.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 18:20 into the third period. Six fighting penalties were dished out along with five game misconducts.

North York racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with nine minors and two majors for 48 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 21.0 minutes per game the Rangers had been spending in the box. Mississauga was unable to stop North York from sending pucks towards the net, and the Rangers eventually piled up 49 shots on goal. North York found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. The Rangers average 4.2 goals per game.

North York additionally got points from Galli Austin, who also had one goal and one assist and Corey Kalk, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Valadao Adam also scored for North York. Other players who recorded assists for North York were Patrick Piacentini, who had two and Chris Aitcheson and Dana Tenenbaum, who contributed one a piece.

The Chargers forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 11 minors and one major for 47 minutes in penalty time. Mississauga surpassed its season average of 20.0 penalty minutes per game. The Chargers forced North York goalie Jason Pucciarelli to work between the pipes, taking 40 shots.

Mississauga was helped by Lucas Venuto, who tallied one goal. Venuto scored 15:13 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Mississauga. Vince Figliomeni provided the assist. Mississauga also got points from A Latina, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Mississauga also got a goal from Nicholas Palumbo as well. In addition, Mississauga received assists from Trevor Warnaar, who had two and Stefano Alonzi, Nick Zottl, Danny Dercole, and Mitchell Mehling, who each chipped in one.

Pucciarelli rejected 36 shots on goal for the Rangers. North York registered two goals on six power play opportunities. Team's Tenenbaum and Matthew Whittaker were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. The Chargers' Alex Lepore stopped 42 shots out of the 49 that he faced. Mississauga registered one goal on five power play opportunities. The Chargers ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Matt Donnelly was ejected from the game.
