Orangeville hangs on, beats Burlington 3-1Wave Twin Rinks - Black Sun, Oct 21, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
Jordan Carvalho scored the go-ahead goal in the first period, and the Orangeville Flyers held off the challenges of the Burlington Cougars in a tough 3-1 win. Carvalho provided Orangeville with the game-winning tally when he scored 14:07 into the the first period. Keegan Ackerland assisted on the tally.The Flyers' Taylor Welsh was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 31 saves and let only one puck past him. Welsh certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 4.14 entering the contest. Orangeville's penalty kill excelled, as the Flyers gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays. The Orangeville penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled six minors and two majors for 22 minutes in penalty time. The Flyers had been averaging 18.0 minutes in penalties per game. Orangeville forced Burlington goalie Brock Novak to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots. The Flyers were helped by Blake Forslund, who tallied one goal. Forslund scored 14:43 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Orangeville. Mathew Thompson picked up the assist. Orangeville also got a goal from Ian Nichols as well. Other players who recorded assists for Orangeville were Kyle Wood, Calum Gomes, James Pitsadiotis, and Matteo Condotta, who each chipped in one. The Cougars could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Burlington puts an average of 3.4 pucks into the net per game. The Cougars' offense rang up 32 shots on Orangeville's net. Burlington was led by Joe Sullivan, who scored the team's only goal. Sullivan scored on the power play 17:13 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Orangeville. The Cougars had taken the advantage when the Flyers' Jayme Forslund got sent off for slashing. Jeremy Gottzmann assisted on the tally. Orangeville registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. The Flyers ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Ackerland was ejected from the game. Novak rejected 33 shots on goal for Burlington. The Cougars incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
