Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Burlington Cougars defeated the Oakville Blades in a shootout 3-2 (1-0 SO). The shootout featured six attempts between both teams.Burlington came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Cougars was down 2-1 after a goal by Oakville's Nathan Renouf at 53 seconds in the third period. Burlington knotted things up at 2-2 on a goal by Jeremy Gottzmann at 18:35 in the third period. The Cougars' penalty kill excelled, as Burlington gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays. Burlington also got a goal from Steven Mueller as well. In addition, Burlington received assists from Ellery O Hara, Cooper Richards, Tyler Lepore, and Luke Sinclair, who contributed one a piece. The Blades put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Cougars to score on any of their five power plays. Oakville could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Blades average 4.3 goals per game. Oakville's offense rang up 38 shots on Burlington's net. The Blades were helped by Jonah Renouf, who registered one goal and one assist. Renouf scored on the power play 17:19 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Oakville. A checking from behind penalty on Mark Rodgers had put Oakville on the power play. Renouf assisted on the tally. Oakville also got points from Renouf, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Oakville were Sean Perichak and Patrick Chore, who each chipped in one. The Cougars' Alex Murray stopped 36 shots out of the 38 that he faced. Burlington incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Evan Buitenhuis rejected 24 shots on goal for the Blades. Oakville incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
