Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Trenton Golden Hawks defeated the Kingston Voyageurs in a shootout 4-3 (2-0 SO). The shootout lasted for five attempts between the teams. Trenton's other shootout goal was scored by Jordan Minello.The Golden Hawks came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Trenton trailed 3-1 after a goal by Kingston's Alex Tonge at 51 seconds in the third period. The Golden Hawks knotted things up at 3-3 on a power play goal by Erlich Doerksen at 14:51 in the third period. Trenton's penalty kill excelled, as the Golden Hawks gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays. Trenton kept the Voyageurs' goalie busy throughout the game, and Charlie Finn made 30 saves on 34 shots. The Golden Hawks got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game. Trenton could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game. The Golden Hawks were helped by Brady Wiffen, who racked up one goal. Wiffen scored 10:18 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Trenton. Nick Marinac provided the assist. Trenton also got a goal from Loren Ulett as well. Other players who recorded assists for Trenton were Shawn Hulshof, Krystian Yorke, Ryan Johnson, and Sammy Banga, who each chipped in one. Kingston additionally got points from David Quesnele, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Aidan Wright also scored for Kingston. More assists for Kingston came via Chad Duchesne, Michael Schug, and Graham Yeo, who contributed one a piece. Victor Adamo rejected 27 shots on goal for Trenton. The Golden Hawks registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Kingston ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major. The Voyageurs ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Tyler McCarthy was ejected from the game.
