St. Michaels blows out Orangeville, 5-1

The St. Michaels Buzzers had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 5-1 win over the Orangeville Flyers.

St. Michaels' Adrian Ignagni was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 28 saves and let only one puck past him. Ignagni certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.47 entering the contest.

The Buzzers were led by CJ Shugart, who had one goal. Shugart scored 15:53 into the second period to make the score 2-0 St. Michaels. Tom Haley picked up the assist.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 9:10 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

St. Michaels forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. The Buzzers had been averaging 23.0 minutes in penalties per game. St. Michaels put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Orangeville to score on any of its four power plays. The Buzzers forced the Flyers goalie Bo Bessette to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots.

St. Michaels also got points from Joseph Berton, who also registered two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. St. Michaels also got a goal from David Italiano as well. More assists for St. Michaels came via Michael Neville, Matt Buckles, and Matt Pepler, who each chipped in one.

Orangeville did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Flyers put an average of 3.2 pucks into the net per game.

Orangeville was led by Brandon Gaudette, who scored the team's only goal. Gaudette scored 11:19 into the third period to make the score 3-1 St. Michaels. Jason Abbott provided the assist.

St. Michaels registered zero goals on one power play opportunities. The Buzzers ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Jordan Schneider was ejected from the game. Bessette rejected 29 shots on goal for the Flyers. Orangeville ended with 21 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major. For the Flyers, James Pitsadiotis was ejected from the game.
