Stouffville rolls over Pickering, 7-3Stouffville Arena Thu, Oct 18, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Stouffville Spirit were firing on all cylinders against the Pickering Panthers, and when the final buzzer sounded Spirit emerged with a 7-3 win. Joseph Deveny was all over the ice for Stouffville, as he tallied two goals in the win. Deveny scored at 11:52 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Stouffville and again while 4:51 into the third to make the score 7-2 Stouffville. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 42 seconds into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. The Spirit forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up 10 minors and one major for 25 minutes in penalty time. Stouffville had been averaging 17.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Spirit made Pickering's netminders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, firing 41 shots and forcing 34 saves. Spencer Bacon made 20 stops and CJ Sharp made 14. Stouffville excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The Spirit surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Stouffville averages 3.3 goals per game. Stouffville also got points from Matthew Heffernan, who also registered one goal and one assist and Alex Botten, who also grabbed two goals and one assist. Stouffville also got a goal from Chad Burrows as well. Other players who recorded assists for Stouffville were Dylan Savory, who had two, Jacob Bauchman, who had three, and Nathanael Halbert, Michael Morgan, Taylor Joseph, and Knick Dawe, who each chipped in one. The the Panthers penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 12 minors and one major for 39 minutes in penalty time. Pickering surpassed its season average of 21.0 penalty minutes per game. The Panthers' offense rang up 31 shots on the Spirit's net. Pickering was helped by Matt Galati, who finished with one goal. Galati scored 6:58 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Stouffville. Micah Nichols picked up the assist. Pickering additionally got points from Brodie Tutton, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Tanner Bull also scored for Pickering. More assists for Pickering came via Andrew McCann and Cody Doiron, who contributed one a piece. Dawe rejected 28 shots on goal for Stouffville.
