In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Newmarket Hurricanes escaped with a 4-2 victory over the Wellington Dukes. Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Austin Rigney secured the win for Newmarket with a goal in the third period. Rigney was all over the ice for the Hurricanes, as he tallied one goal and two assists in the win. Rigney scored 13:23 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Newmarket. Sean Walker picked up the assist. Newmarket excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Wellington was unable to stop the Hurricanes from sending pucks towards the net, and Newmarket eventually piled up 32 shots on goal. Newmarket additionally got points from Walker, who also racked up one goal and two assists. Newmarket also got a goal from Jordan Dunin as well. Other players who recorded assists for Newmarket were Daniel Leavens, who had one and Jeff Murray, who had three. The Dukes were helped by Erick Delaurentis, who finished with one goal. Delaurentis scored 15:03 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Wellington. Spencer Turcotte assisted on the tally. Evan Erickson also scored for Wellington. In addition, Wellington received assists from Cam Nicoll, who had one. The Hurricanes' starting goalie, Matthew Wintjes, made 23 saves and finished with the win before he was taken out in favor of Lucas Peressini, who stopped one shot. Newmarket incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Wellington's Hayden Lavigne stopped 28 shots out of the 31 that he faced. The Dukes incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
