Deroch's goals lift Whitby to 6-2 victory over Cobourg

Behind a great game by Sean Deroch, who had two goals, the Whitby Fury defeated the Cobourg Cougars, 6-2.

Deroch's tallies came at 4:03 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Whitby and 4:15 into the first to make the score 3-0 Whitby.

Whitby pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 20 penalty minutes.

The Fury stifled Cobourg's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Whitby bested its season scoring average. This season, the Fury average 3.3 goals per contest.

Whitby additionally got points from Henry Thompson, who also registered one goal and one assist and Marco Azzano, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Sam Gray also scored for Whitby. In addition, Whitby received assists from Mike Panowyk, who had two and Matt Eddy, Tyler Park, Nick Neal, Jack Lewis, Jonathan OHara, Kevin Stevens, and Matt Davis, who contributed one a piece.

The Cougars got their opportunities on the power play, but did not convert any of their 10 chances.

Whitby's starting goalie, Josh Hickey, made three saves and finished with the win before he was taken out in favor of Tyler Feaver, who stopped 18 shots. The Fury registered one goal on six power play opportunities. Whitby ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Steven Deeg was ejected from the game. Joe Keyser made 19 saves before being replaced by Emerson Verrier, who took the loss and made three saves. Cobourg incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
