Trenton uses shootout to best Pickering, 4-3 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Trenton Golden Hawks defeated the Pickering Panthers in a shootout 4-3 (1-0 SO).

The two teams needed six turns to complete the shootout.

Trenton's penalty kill excelled, as the Golden Hawks gave up one goal despite allowing nine power plays.

Trenton was sparked by Sammy Banga, who finished with one goal and one assist. Banga scored 15:08 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Trenton. Jordan Minello assisted on the tally.

The Golden Hawks forced Pickering goalie Spencer Bacon to work between the pipes, taking 43 shots. Trenton's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Golden Hawks finished with 22 penalty minutes.

Trenton also got points from Josh Timpano, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Brady Wiffen also scored for Trenton. In addition, Trenton received assists from Nick Marinac and Truman Landowski, who contributed one a piece.

The Panthers stifled Trenton's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Pickering's offense rang up 32 shots on the Golden Hawks' net. The Panthers' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Pickering finished with 18 penalty minutes.

The Panthers were led by Matt Galati, who registered two goals and one assist. Galati scored the first of his two goals at 5:30 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Trenton. Micah Nichols picked up the assist. Galati's next tally made the score 3-2 Trenton with 4:38 left in the second period. Andrew McCann provided the assist. Pickering also got a goal from Jeff Heard as well. Other players who recorded assists for Pickering were Aidan Wallace and Cody Doiron, who each chipped in one.

Trenton's Victor Adamo stopped 29 shots out of the 32 that he faced. The Golden Hawks registered zero goals on seven power play opportunities. Bacon rejected 39 shots on goal for Pickering. Team's Derek Sheppard and Heard were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
