Buffalo squeaks by Orangeville, 4-2

The Buffalo Jr. Sabres and the Orangeville Flyers were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Buffalo made the most of its opportunities and won, 4-2.

No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Tyler Gjurich at 18:10 of the third period.

Nathan Pelligra had a great game for the Jr. Sabres, netting two goals. Pelligra scored at 16:58 into the third period to make the score 2-1 Buffalo and again while 19:24 into the third to make the score 4-2 Buffalo.

Orangeville's power play was ineffective against Buffalo's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

The Jr. Sabres put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Flyers to score on any of their six power plays. Buffalo's offense rang up 38 shots on Orangeville's net.

David Seward also scored for Buffalo. In addition, Buffalo received assists from Ryan Schmelzer, Josh Kielich, Max Mikowski, Dylan Howatt, Sean Federow, Parker Gahagen, and Pat Egan, who contributed one a piece.

The Flyers kept the Jr. Sabres' goalie busy throughout the game, and Gahagen made 29 saves on 31 shots. Orangeville was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 24 penalty minutes.

The Flyers were helped by Joshua Decosta, who grabbed one goal. Decosta scored 10:02 into the third period to make the score 1-1. Kelby Lorenz picked up the assist. Orangeville also got a goal from Jordan Carvalho as well. Other players who recorded assists for Orangeville were Mathew Thompson, Brandon Gaudette, and Keegan Ackerland, who each chipped in one.

Buffalo incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Taylor Welsh recorded 34 saves for Orangeville.
