Orangeville squeaks by Oakville, 3-2

The Orangeville Flyers and the Oakville Blades were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Orangeville made the most of its opportunities and won, 3-2.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Joshua Decosta's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

Decosta had a great game for the Flyers, netting two goals.

Orangeville's penalty kill excelled, as the Flyers gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

Orangeville was often in penalty trouble, totaling six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. The Flyers had been averaging 17.0 minutes in penalties per game.

Blake Forslund also scored for Orangeville. Other players who recorded assists for Orangeville were Bryer Lorenz, Emmerson Small, and James Pitsadiotis, who each chipped in one.

Oakville put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Orangeville to score on any of its three power plays. The Blades did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Oakville puts an average of 4.5 pucks into the net per game. The Blades' offense rang up 46 shots on the Flyers' net.

Oakville was helped by Spencer Green, who finished with one goal. Green scored on the power play 13:32 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Orangeville. The Blades had gained a power play chance when Kelby Lorenz was whistled for roughing. Kyle Jenkins picked up the assist. Oakville also got a goal from Harrison Domagala as well. More assists for Oakville came via Nathan Renouf, Len Fabbri, and Stefan Leblanc, who contributed one a piece.

Bo Bessette recorded 44 saves for Orangeville. For the Flyers, Lorenz was ejected from the game. Mitchell Knight made seven saves before being replaced by Evan Buitenhuis, who took the loss and made six saves. Oakville incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors.
