Mississauga survives Orangeville comeback, wins 5-3Alder St. Recreation Centre Mon, Oct 08, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Orangeville Flyers tried to dig themselves out of a four-goal hole, but the Mississauga Chargers held on for a 5-3 victory. Mississauga made the score 5-1 on a goal by Paul Ramieri at 5:28 in the third period, and Orangeville got as close as 5-3 when Brandon Gaudette scored 19:36 into the third period. The Chargers put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Flyers to score on any of their four power plays. Orangeville was unable to stop Mississauga from sending pucks towards the net, and the Chargers eventually piled up 32 shots on goal. Mississauga surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Chargers have scored at the pace of 2.9 goals per game during the current campaign. The Flyers were often in penalty trouble, totaling seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. Orangeville had been averaging 16.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Flyers forced Mississauga goalie Austin Washkurak to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots. Orangeville was helped by Blake Forslund, who registered one goal. Forslund scored 9:34 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Peter Stepanis picked up the assist. Kyle Wood also scored for Orangeville. Other players who recorded assists for Orangeville were Emmerson Small, Jordan Carvalho, Keegan Ackerland, and Colin APM Rigney, who each chipped in one. Washkurak recorded 38 saves for the Chargers. Mississauga incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Taylor Welsh made 27 saves for the Flyers on 32 shots. For Orangeville, Kelby Lorenz, Forslund, and James Pitsadiotis were ejected from the contest.
