Buffalo beats North York 5-4 after comeback scare

The North York Rangers tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Buffalo Jr. Sabres held on for a 5-4 victory.

Buffalo took a 5-3 lead during the second period, only to have North York storm back on a Nicholas Geiser goal 17:47 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

Josh Kielich was all over the ice for the Jr. Sabres, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Kielich scored the first of his two goals at 10:03 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Buffalo. R.J. Sciarrone assisted on the tally. Kielich's next tally made the score Buffalo with 34 seconds left in the second period. Ryan Schmelzer provided the assist.

Buffalo made Rangers' goaltenders to work without much rest, finishing with 32 shots and forcing 27 saves. Keogh Jacob made nine stops and Allen Avery made 18. The Jr. Sabres put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Rangers to score on any of their six power plays.

Buffalo additionally got points from David Seward, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Nolan Sheeran, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Buffalo also got a goal from Derek Patterson as well. More assists for Buffalo came via Sean Federow, who had one and Tyler Gjurich, who had two.

North York kept Buffalo's goalie busy throughout the game, and Parker Gahagen made 39 saves on 43 shots.

Ryan Kinsella also scored for North York. In addition, North York received assists from Scott Maguire, who had two and Patrick Piacentini, Power Brody, Fung Zachary, Michael Giacometti, and John Carpino, who each chipped in one.

The Jr. Sabres incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Rangers incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
