Trenton wins tough contest against Whitby, 3-2Iroquois - Rink#1 Sun, Oct 07, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Trenton Golden Hawks gutted out a close 3-2 win against the Whitby Fury. Neither team gained more than a one-goal lead, and Erlich Doerksen's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker. Trenton was led by Doerksen, who tallied one goal and one assist. Doerksen scored 7:14 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Trenton. Josh Timpano provided the assist. The Golden Hawks managed to stay out of the box better than usual, finishing with one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Trenton finished below its season average of 12.0 penalty minutes per game. The Golden Hawks forced Whitby goalie Josh Hickey to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots. Trenton additionally got points from Shawn Hulshof, who also registered one goal and one assist. Krystian Yorke also scored for Trenton. In addition, Trenton received assists from Alex Leader and Nick Marinac, who each chipped in one. The Fury kept Trenton's goalie busy throughout the game, and Victor Adamo made 29 saves on 31 shots. Whitby was helped by Sam Gray, who racked up one goal. Gray scored 19:37 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Matt Davis picked up the assist. Whitby also got a goal from Sean Deroch as well. The Golden Hawks registered zero goals on zero power play opportunities. Josh Hickey made 32 saves for the Fury on 35 shots. Whitby avoided the penalty box for the entire game and scored zero goals off of one power plays.
