Aurora vanquishes Lindsay in shootout, 4-3 (2-0 SO)Lindsay Recreation Centre Fri, Oct 05, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Aurora Tigers defeated the Lindsay Muskies in a shootout 4-3 (2-0 SO). The two teams needed five turns to complete the shootout. In addition to the clincher, Aurora got a shootout goal from Daniel Lisi.The Tigers overcame a three-goal deficit to capture the victory. Aurora trailed 3-0 after a power play goal by Lindsay's Matt McCartney at 10:11 in the second period. The Tigers tied things up at 3-3 on a goal by Taylor McCloy at 7:24 in the third period. Aurora was led by Kyle Liu, who finished with one goal. Liu scored on the power play 12:19 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Lindsay. The Tigers earned a power play opportunity when Patrick Thornton was put in the box for high sticking. Kory Kennedy provided the assist. Aurora made the Muskies' goaltenders to work all game long, racking up 37 shots and forcing 33 saves. Greg Zupan made 19 stops and Tanner Davis made 14. The Tigers got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game. Aurora's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Tigers finished with 28 penalty minutes. Tyler Shaw also scored for Aurora. More assists for Aurora came via Daniel Clairmont, who had two and Kevin Shier, Adam Moody, and Mihkel Poldma, who each chipped in one. Aurora was unable to stop Lindsay from sending pucks towards the net, and the Muskies eventually piled up 37 shots on goal. Lindsay was ineffective while on the power play, as it was held to two goals off of nine man advantages. The Muskies were led by Dean Klomp, who grabbed two goals and one assist. Klomp scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 6:35 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Lindsay. Lindsay had taken the advantage when the Tigers' Shaw got sent off for hooking. Cole Murduff assisted on the tally. Klomp's next tally on the power play made the score 2-0 Lindsay with 16:21 left in the second period. Felix Chamberland provided the assist. In addition, Lindsay received assists from Dylan Fitze, Louis-David Bourgault, and Corey Jackson, who contributed one a piece. Brett Sinclair rejected 34 shots on goal for Aurora. The Tigers registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. For Aurora, Kennedy was ejected from the game. The Muskies incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
