North York uses shootout to best Buffalo, 3-2 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the North York Rangers defeated the Buffalo Jr. Sabres in a shootout 3-2 (2-1 SO).

The two teams needed eight turns to complete the shootout. Buffalo's shootout goal was scored by Tyler Gjurich. In addition to the clincher, North York got a shootout goal from Fung Zachary.

The Rangers' penalty kill excelled, as North York gave up one goal despite allowing eight power plays.

The Rangers kept the Jr. Sabres' goalie busy throughout the game, and Bobby Bloomfield made 31 saves on 34 shots. North York was often in penalty trouble, as it ended with eight minors and one major for 21 minutes in penalty time.

The Rangers were led by John Carpino, who racked up one goal and one assist. Carpino scored 7:00 into the second period to make the score 2-1 North York. Scott Maguire assisted on the tally. North York also got a goal from Valadao Adam as well.

Buffalo's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on eight North York power plays.

The Jr. Sabres were helped by Pat Egan, who grabbed one goal. Egan scored 3:09 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Max Mikowski picked up the assist. Buffalo additionally got points from Mikowski, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, Buffalo received assists from Josh Kielich, Sean Federow, and Nolan Sheeran, who contributed one a piece.

Keogh Jacob rejected 25 shots on goal for North York. For the Rangers, Ryan Kinsella was ejected from the game. Buffalo incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
