Aurora outlasts Wellington, 5-3Aurora Community Centre Sat, Sep 29, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The game between the Aurora Tigers and the Wellington Dukes was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Aurora emerged with a 5-3 win. Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Tyler Shaw's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker. In the losing effort, Wellington was led by Abbot Girduckis, who finished with two goals. Girduckis scored the first of his two goals at 10:01 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Wellington. Joe McKeown provided the assist. Girduckis' next tally made the score 2-0 Wellington with 19:14 left in the third period. Jan Kaminsky assisted on the tally. The Tigers were led by Shaw, who registered one goal. Shaw scored 19:21 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Aurora. Aurora excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The Tigers kept the Dukes' goalie busy throughout the game, and Hayden Lavigne made 34 saves on 39 shots. Aurora surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Tigers average 2.9 goals per game. Aurora additionally got points from Daniel Clairmont, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Aurora also got a goal from Taylor McCloy as well. More assists for Aurora came via Dylan Wallace, Kevin Shier, Dylan Sikura, Kory Kennedy, and Adam Moody, who contributed one a piece. Wellington stifled Aurora's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Cam Nicoll also scored for Wellington. Aurora incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Dukes incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
