Schmelzer nets hat trick, leads Buffalo to 7-2 win over TorontoChesswood Arena Sat, Sep 29, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Toronto Junior Canadiens could not stop the Buffalo Jr. Sabres' Ryan Schmelzer, who tallied a hat trick in a 7-2 win. Schmelzer's first goal came 5:10 into the second period. He then added goals at 10:33 into the third and at 15:54 into the third.Buffalo forced Toronto's goalies to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, firing 38 shots and forcing 31 saves. Denny Dubblestyne made 18 stops and Nathan Colitto made 13. The Jr. Sabres excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Buffalo found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. The Jr. Sabres have scored at the pace of 4.3 goals per game during the current campaign. Buffalo's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals. Buffalo also got points from Derek Patterson, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Alex Dagnal, who also registered one goal and three assists. Mark Powell also scored for Buffalo. Other players who recorded assists for Buffalo were Tyler Gjurich, who had four and Dylan Howatt and Sean Federow, who each chipped in one. The Junior Canadiens' penalty kill unit could not stop the Jr. Sabres' power play, which converted on three of five opportunities. Toronto was helped by Dalton Hnatko APM, who finished with one goal. Hnatko APM scored 15:00 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Buffalo. Adam Logozzo assisted on the tally. Toronto additionally got points from Logozzo, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Toronto came via Gregory Di Tomaso, who had one. Buffalo's Parker Gahagen stopped 27 shots out of the 29 that he faced. The Jr. Sabres incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. The Junior Canadiens ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. For Toronto, Andrew Mullen was ejected from the game.
