Buffalo stifles Orangeville's comeback, gains 5-3 victory

The Buffalo Jr. Sabres, who led by four goals at one point, survived a comeback attempt by Buffalo and clinched a 5-3 victory.

The Jr. Sabres led by four goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when Buffalo's Nathan Pelligra's scored on the power play at 8:13 in the second period to put the Jr. Sabres up 4-0.

Buffalo was led by Ryan Schmelzer, who registered one goal. Schmelzer scored on the power play 18:27 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Buffalo. The Jr. Sabres earned a power play opportunity when Jayme Forslund was put in the box for high sticking. Sean Federow picked up the assist.

In the losing effort, the Orangeville Flyers were sparked by Jordan Carvalho, who tallied two goals. Carvalho scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 14:55 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Buffalo. Orangeville had taken the advantage when Buffalo's Sam Berg got sent off for checking from behind. Kyle Wood provided the assist. Carvalho's next tally on the power play made the score 4-3 Buffalo with 2:48 left in the third period. James Pitsadiotis picked up the assist.

The Jr. Sabres made Flyers' goaltenders to work all game long, firing 35 shots and forcing 30 saves. Taylor Welsh made 14 stops and Bo Bessette made 16.

Buffalo additionally got points from Tyler Gjurich, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Darrin Trebes also scored for Buffalo. More assists for Buffalo came via David Seward, who had two and Max Mikowski, Mark Powell, and Tim Kielich, who each chipped in one.

Orangeville also got a goal from Mathew Thompson as well. Other players who recorded assists for Orangeville were Geoffrey Bagnall, Blake Forslund, and Michael Capicotto, who contributed one a piece.

Parker Gahagen made 24 saves for Buffalo on 27 shots. The Jr. Sabres incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. For Buffalo, Berg was ejected from the game. The Flyers incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
