North York wins tough contest against Buffalo, 6-4North York Centennial Sun, Sep 23, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The North York Rangers gutted out a close 6-4 win against the Buffalo Jr. Sabres. Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Valadao Adam's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker. Liam Kerins had two goals and one assist to lead North York. Kerins scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 5:05 into the first period to make the score 1-1. John Carpino provided the assist. Kerins' next tally on the power play made the score 3-2 North York with 4:03 left in the first period. Carpino assisted on the tally. Buffalo was unable to stop the Rangers from sending pucks towards the net, and North York eventually piled up 42 shots on goal. The Rangers were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 26 penalty minutes. North York also got points from Corey Kalk, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Taylor Pryce, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Ryan Kinsella also scored for North York. More assists for North York came via Patrick Piacentini, who had two and Chris Aitcheson, Michael Giacometti, and Matthew Whittaker, who contributed one a piece. The Jr. Sabres' offense rang up 47 shots on North York's net. Buffalo's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Jr. Sabres finished with 20 penalty minutes. Buffalo had trouble converting on the power play advantage, managing just two goals on nine chances. The Jr. Sabres were led by David Seward, who registered one goal and two assists. Seward scored on the power play 14:21 into the second period to make the score 4-4. Buffalo had gotten the advantage when the Rangers' Giacometti was sent off for slashing. Sean Federow picked up the assist. Buffalo additionally got points from Tyler Gjurich, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Ryan Schmelzer, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Buffalo also got a goal from Nick Gullo as well. Other players who recorded assists for Buffalo were Sam Berg, who had one. Allen Avery rejected 43 shots on goal for North York. The Rangers registered three goals on nine power play opportunities. Bobby Bloomfield recorded 36 saves for the Jr. Sabres. For Buffalo, Alex Dagnal was ejected from the game.
