Morrison's big game bests Cobourg in 5-2 Newmarket win

Brycin Morrison had two goals and one assist to lead the Newmarket Hurricanes to a 5-2 victory over the Cobourg Cougars.

Morrison found the back of the net 10:15 into the second period to make the score 2-2 and again while 7:02 into the third to make the score 4-2 Newmarket.

Newmarket's offense rang up 42 shots on Cobourg's net. The Hurricanes found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, Newmarket averages 2.8 goals per contest. The Hurricanes' penalty kill was ineffective, and let in two goals to the Cougars' power play unit. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Newmarket additionally got points from David Savery, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Austin Rigney also scored for Newmarket. Other players who recorded assists for Newmarket were Sean Walker, Chris Chiste, Phil Kiss, and Nik Coric, who each chipped in one and Travis Dermott and Ian Farrell, who contributed two a piece.

Cobourg was helped by Evan Jasper, who finished with one goal. Jasper scored on the power play 3:19 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Cobourg. The Cougars earned a power play opportunity when Walker was put in the box for tripping. Taylor Gauld picked up the assist. Cobourg also got a goal from Colbie Andrews as well. More assists for Cobourg came via Justin Danforth and Mark MacAulay, who each chipped in one.

Newmarket's Matthew Wintjes stopped 25 shots out of the 27 that he faced. The Hurricanes incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Joe Keyser rejected 37 shots on goal for Cobourg. The Cougars incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
