North York erases deficit to stun Orangeville, 6-5Alder St. Recreation Centre Sat, Sep 22, 2012 Story by Narrative Science.
The Orangeville Flyers could not hold down the North York Rangers, and Rangers erased a three-goal deficit en route to a 6-5 win. North York let multiple leads slip away before eventually digging out of a three hole to pick up the win. The Rangers took a 1-0 advantage on a goal by John Carpino at 2:10 in the first period. North York went down 4-1 after Orangeville's Daniel Holt put the puck home at 13:47 in the first period. After evening things up at 5-5 on a goal by Fung Zachary at 2:35 in the third, the Rangers got the game-winner from Matthew Whittaker at 19:29 in the third period. North York was led by goalie Allen Avery, who finished with 26 saves while allowing one goal. Avery managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 3.3 prior to the game. The Rangers were often in penalty trouble, totaling eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. North York had been averaging 24.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Rangers kept the Flyers' goalie busy throughout the game, and Bo Bessette made 33 saves on 39 shots. North York also got points from Zachary, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Whittaker, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Liam Kerins also scored for North York. Other players who recorded assists for North York were Valadao Adam, who had one and Patrick Piacentini and Corey Kalk, who each chipped in two. Team could not crack North York's penalty kill and was held to one power play goal while having nine opportunities to play with the man advantage. The Rangers were unable to stop Orangeville from sending pucks towards the net, and the Flyers eventually piled up 36 shots on goal. Orangeville was helped by Bryer Lorenz, who had two goals and one assist. Lorenz scored the first of his two goals at 3:16 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Ian Nichols picked up the assist. Lorenz's next tally made the score 5-3 Orangeville with 9:52 left in the second period. The Flyers had gotten the advantage when North York's Piacentini was sent off for tripping. Brandon Gaudette assisted on the tally. Orangeville additionally got points from Nicholas Baratto, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points and Keegan Ackerland, who also registered one goal and one assist. In addition, Orangeville received assists from Geoffrey Bagnall, Kelby Lorenz, and Blake Forslund, who contributed one a piece. The Rangers registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. North York ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Dana Tenenbaum was ejected from the game. Orangeville incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
