Whitby beats Aurora 4-3 after comeback scare

The Aurora Tigers tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Whitby Fury held on for a 4-3 victory.

Whitby made the score 4-1 on a goal by Chris Raguseo at 1:53 in the third period, and Aurora got as close as 4-3 when Taylor McCloy scored 12:24 into the third period.

The Fury got the win on the strength of a great game by Raguseo, who had one goal and three assists.

Whitby's offense rang up 31 shots on the Tigers' net.

Whitby additionally got points from Jack Lewis, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Whitby also got a goal from Sean Deroch as well. More assists for Whitby came via Sam Gray, Matt Davis, and Zach Deconcilys, who each chipped in one.

Aurora forced the Fury goalie Josh Hickey to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots. The Tigers could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game.

Aurora was helped by Mihkel Poldma, who finished with one goal and one assist. Poldma scored on the power play 10:14 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Whitby. A tripping penalty on Mike Panowyk had put the Tigers on the power play. Daniel Clairmont provided the assist. Aurora also got points from McCloy, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Kevin Shier, who also racked up one goal and one assist. In addition, Aurora received assists from Tyler Shaw and Daniel Lisi, who contributed one a piece.

Hickey rejected 29 shots on goal for Whitby. The Fury incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Kevin Entmaa recorded 27 saves for Aurora. The Tigers registered two goals on four power play opportunities. Aurora ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Kyle Liu was ejected from the game.
