Wellington uses early goal to top Pickering, 3-1

Parker Wood scored the go-ahead goal in the first period, and the Wellington Dukes held off the challenges of the Pickering Panthers in a tough 3-1 win.

Wellington took over the lead for good with a goal by Wood at 30 seconds in the first period. Craig Campbell assisted on the tally.

The Dukes' Hayden Lavigne was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 25 saves and let only one puck past him.

Wellington was sparked by Erick Delaurentis, who registered one goal. Delaurentis scored 4:36 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Wellington. Luc Brown picked up the assist.

The Dukes' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Pickering power plays.

Wellington additionally got points from Wood, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Wellington also got a goal from Zach Bishop as well. In addition, Wellington received assists from Joe McKeown, who had one and Jan Kaminsky, who had two.

Pickering stifled Wellington's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Panthers were held below their usual level of production. Pickering averages 3.8 goals per game.

The Panthers were led by Adam Nanji, who scored the team's only goal. Nanji scored 4:07 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Wellington. Jeff Heard assisted on the tally.

The Dukes incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Spencer Bacon rejected 22 shots on goal for Pickering. The Panthers incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
