Orangeville beats Mississauga 7-5 after comeback scare

The Mississauga Chargers tried to dig themselves out of a five-goal hole, but the Orangeville Flyers held on for a 7-5 victory.

Orangeville made the score 6-1 on a goal by Kelby Lorenz at 1:41 in the third period, and Mississauga got as close as 6-4 when B Beasley scored 15:26 into the third period.

Jordan Carvalho had one goal and two assists to lead the Flyers. Carvalho scored 6:35 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Orangeville. Blake Forslund picked up the assist.

The Orangeville penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled five minors and two majors for 20 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 15.0 minutes per game the Flyers had been spending in the box. Orangeville found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, the Flyers average 4.3 goals per contest.

Orangeville also got points from Daniel Holt, who also grabbed one goal and two assists and Michael Capicotto, who also finished with one goal and two assists. Orangeville also had goals scored by Bryer Lorenz, who had one and Keegan Ackerland, who had two. More assists for Orangeville came via Peter Stepanis, who had one and Kyle Thacker, who had two.

The Chargers were often in penalty trouble, totaling six minors and two majors for 22 minutes in penalty time. Mississauga surpassed its season average of 19.0 penalty minutes per game. The Chargers excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances.

Jimmy Cusan also scored for Mississauga. In addition, Mississauga received assists from Trevor Warnaar and Lucas Venuto, who each chipped in one and A Latina, Nicholas Palumbo, Michael Cuddemi, and Will Irons, who contributed two a piece.

Taylor Welsh rejected 15 shots on goal for Orangeville. For the Flyers, Ian Nichols and Forslund were ejected from the contest. Alex Lepore recorded 20 saves for Mississauga. The Chargers registered one goal on three power play opportunities. Team's Stefano Alonzi and Matt Donnelly were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
