Oakville outlasts Georgetown, 3-2

The Oakville Blades gutted out a close 3-2 win against the Georgetown Raiders.

No lead was more than one goal during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Kris Bennet at 17:06 of the second period.

Bennet had two goals to lead Oakville to victory.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 12:43 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Blades racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with nine minors and two majors for 38 minutes in penalty time. Oakville had been averaging 26.0 minutes in penalties per game.

Oakville also got a goal from Matt Alvaro as well. Other players who recorded assists for Oakville were Marc Silvestro, who had two and Aidan Orbinski and Todd Bannerman, who each chipped in one.

The Georgetown penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled nine minors and two majors for 38 minutes in penalty time. The Raiders surpassed its season average of 29.0 penalty minutes per game. Georgetown kept the Blades' goalie busy throughout the game, and Evan Buitenhuis made 30 saves on 32 shots.

The Raiders were led by Brendan Woods, who tallied two goals. Woods scored the first of his two goals at 18:28 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Alex Adams provided the assist. Woods' next tally made the score 2-1 Georgetown with 16:56 left in the second period. Georgetown had gained a power play chance when Vince Palermo was whistled for spearing. Nick Perruccio picked up the assist. In addition, Georgetown received assists from Santino Centorame and John Adams, who contributed one a piece.

Oakville registered one goal on four power play opportunities. For the Blades, Patrick Chore and Rory Bell were ejected from the contest. The Raiders took out Gabe Grunwald after he had made nine saves and installed Daniel Mannella in goal, where he finished with 12 saves and the loss. Georgetown registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Team's Ryan Kinsella and Drake Hart were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
