Pensacola rips Louisiana, 5-1

The Louisiana IceGators had trouble finding ways to stop the Pensacola Ice Flyers, which beat IceGators, 5-1.

Ryan Salvis was all over the ice for Pensacola, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Salvis scored the first of his two goals at 19:28 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Pensacola. Pat Knowlton assisted on the tally. Salvis' next tally made the score 4-1 Pensacola with 12:02 left in the third period. Knowlton provided the assist.

The Ice Flyers' John Griggs was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 31 saves and let only one puck past him. Despite the solid performance, Griggs will actually see his goals against average rise, as it stood at 1.0 entering the contest.

Pensacola put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Louisiana to score on any of its three power plays. The 47 shots that the Ice Flyers put on net surpassed Pensacola's average of 22.7 shots per game this season.

Pensacola also got points from Tyler Soehner, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Ron Cramer also scored for Pensacola. Other players who recorded assists for Pensacola were Jordan Chong, Mitchell Good, and Dan Buccella, who contributed two a piece.

The IceGators were held below their usual level of production. Louisiana puts an average of 3.1 pucks into the net per game. The defense for the IceGators played an important role offensively, racking up 18 shots on goal. Louisiana's offense rang up 32 shots on the Ice Flyers' net.

The IceGators were led by Jeremey Boyer, who scored the team's only goal. Boyer scored 37 seconds into the second period to make the score 1-1. Kirk Byczynski picked up the assist.

Pensacola incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Louisiana's Breton Lindoff stopped 42 shots out of the 47 that he faced. The IceGators incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
