Columbus downs Augusta in overtime, 2-1 (OT)

The Columbus Cottonmouths pulled out a 2-1 (OT) overtime victory over the Augusta RiverHawks on a clutch goal by Sam Bowles.

Augusta was stymied by Columbus netminder Ian Vigier, who stopped 26 shots during the victory. Vigier certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.9 entering the contest.

The Cottonmouths were led by Bowles, who registered one goal. Bowles scored 2:07 into overtime to make the score 2-1 Columbus.

Columbus' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Augusta power plays. The Cottonmouths relied on a core group of players for most of their offense, as John Sullivan, Bowles and Mark Thorburn took 21 of the team's 41 shots.

Matt Gingera also scored for Columbus. More assists for Columbus came via Kevin Kessler and Marcel Alvarez, who each chipped in one.

The RiverHawks excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. With 27 shots on target during the contest, Augusta exceeded the 19.2 shots it averages per game this year.

The RiverHawks were led by Jason Price, who scored the team's only goal. Price scored 5:38 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Jonathan Juliano provided the assist.

Columbus incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Augusta's Robbie Moss stopped 39 shots out of the 41 that he faced. The RiverHawks incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
