Andrew Loewen had a standout game with 34 saves, and the Columbus Cottonmouths beat the Augusta RiverHawks 4-1. Columbus' penalty kill excelled, as the Cottonmouths gave up zero goals despite allowing eight power plays. Columbus was led by Matt Gingera, who had one goal and one assist. Gingera scored 7:55 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Columbus. Tom Maldonado picked up the assist. The Cottonmouths racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with eight minors and two majors for 46 minutes in penalty time. Columbus had been averaging 21.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Cottonmouths stifled Augusta's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Mark Thorburn also scored for Columbus. More assists for Columbus came via Jason Yuel, who had two and Kevin Kessler, Daniel Amesbury, and Sam Bowles, who each chipped in one. The RiverHawks were often in penalty trouble, totaling eight minors and two majors for 36 minutes in penalty time. Augusta surpassed its season average of 21.0 penalty minutes per game. The RiverHawks excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. Augusta's offense rang up 35 shots on Columbus' net. The RiverHawks were led by Marcus Pryde, who took one shot. Brandon Foote made 16 saves before being replaced by Robbie Moss, who took the loss and made five saves.
