Larsen nets hat trick, leads Augusta to 9-4 win over Louisiana

Taylor Larsen netted a hat trick to lead the Augusta RiverHawks over the Louisiana IceGators, 9-4.

Larsen notched his first tally 10:34 into the first period. He then added goals at 6:02 into the second and at 11:57 into the second.

Augusta forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up four minors and five majors for 43 minutes in penalty time. The RiverHawks surpassed its season average of 22.0 penalty minutes per game. Augusta found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. The RiverHawks have scored at the pace of 2.8 goals per game during the current campaign. Augusta struggled on the penalty kill, allowing Louisiana to score two power play goals on three chances. The RiverHawks got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game. By firing 33 shots on goal, Augusta exceeded the 18.7 shots it averages per game this year.

Augusta also got points from Kyle Watson, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Marcus Pryde, who also finished with one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Augusta included Drew Baker, who had two and Jonathan Juliano and Dennis Sicard, who scored one goal each. In addition, Augusta received assists from Michael Switzer, Joe Schiller, Jay Pietrasiak, Matt Auffrey, and Alex Morton, who contributed one a piece and Jason Price, Casey Mignone, and Jesse Echternach, who each chipped in two.

The the IceGators penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled four minors and four majors for 28 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 20.0 minutes per game Louisiana had been spending in the box. The 28 shots that the IceGators put on net surpassed Louisiana's average of 23.2 shots per game this season.

The IceGators were helped by Matthew Robertson, who racked up one goal and two assists. Robertson scored on the power play 17:46 into the third period to make the score 9-3 Augusta. Louisiana had gotten the advantage when the RiverHawks' Mignone was sent off for slashing. Clark Byczynski assisted on the tally. Louisiana additionally got points from Byczynski, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Jeremey Boyer, who also had one goal and two assists, and Robert Short, who also registered one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Louisiana were Kirk Byczynski, who had one.

Robbie Moss made 24 saves for Augusta on 28 shots. The RiverHawks registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. Augusta ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Mignone was ejected from the game. Mike Dilorenzo took the loss and made 16 saves before being replaced by Breton Lindoff who made eight saves.
