Pensacola downs Mississippi Surge in overtime, 4-3 (OT)

The Pensacola Ice Flyers' Steve Bergin scored 4:29 into overtime to beat Mississippi Surge, 4-3 (OT).

Pensacola came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Ice Flyers fell behind 2-0 after a goal by Mississippi Surge's Branden Kosolofsky at 17:23 in the first period. Pensacola knotted things up at 3-3 on a goal by Matt Gordon at 5:39 in the third period.

Justin MacDonald had two goals to lead the Ice Flyers to victory. MacDonald scored at 14:06 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Mississippi Surge and again while 17:54 into the second to make the score 2-2.

Pensacola excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Ice Flyers put 38 shots on net during the contest, more than the 19.6 they average per game.

Pensacola also got points from Jordan Chong, who also finished with one goal and one assist. In addition, Pensacola received assists from Kevin Kozlowski, who had two and Brandon Vossberg, Mike MacIntyre, Ryan Salvis, and Justin Alonzo, who contributed one a piece.

The Mississippi Surge penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled nine minors and one major for 43 minutes in penalty time. Mississippi Surge surpassed its season average of 21.0 penalty minutes per game. The 41 shots that Mississippi Surge put on net surpassed Mississippi Surge's average of 18.7 shots per game this season.

Mississippi Surge also got a goal from Joe Harcharik as well. More assists for Mississippi Surge came via Kyle Kudroch, Brandon Coccimiglio, Jeff Grant, and Matt Ridley, who each chipped in one.

Gerry Festa rejected 38 shots on goal for Pensacola. The Ice Flyers totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-9 on the power play. Mississippi Surge's Kiefer Smiley stopped 34 shots out of the 38 that he faced. For Mississippi Surge, Grant was ejected from the game.
