Mississippi RiverKings falls to Fayetteville after surprising comeback

The Fayetteville FireAntz rallied from three goals down to secure a 6-4 win over Mississippi RiverKings.

Fayetteville never led in the game until netting the game winner. The FireAntz trailed 4-1 after a goal by Mississippi RiverKings' Kyle Lundale at 10:01 in the first period. Fayetteville knotted things up at 4-4 on a goal by Ben Contini at 12:25 in the third period. The FireAntz netted the game winner at 14:46 in the third period on a goal by Contini.

Fayetteville got the win behind a great game by Josh McQuade, who had one goal and two assists.

The FireAntz excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Fayetteville found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. The FireAntz have scored at the pace of 3.4 goals per game during the current campaign. Fayetteville put 41 shots on net during the contest, more than the 29.3 it averages per game.

Fayetteville additionally got points from Mike Kavanagh, who also registered one goal and one assist and Brandon Richardson, who also tallied one goal and three assists to lead the team in points. Bobby Reed also scored for Fayetteville. More assists for Fayetteville came via Derek Elliott and Andrew Smale, who each chipped in one and John Clewlow and Brett Liscomb, who contributed two a piece.

The FireAntz were unable to stop Mississippi RiverKings from sending pucks towards the net, and Mississippi RiverKings eventually piled up 31 shots on goal.

Mississippi RiverKings was helped by Chris Campanale, who had one goal. Campanale scored 2:04 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Mississippi RiverKings. Kevin Willer provided the assist. Mississippi RiverKings also got a goal from Campbell Elynuik as well. In addition, Mississippi RiverKings received assists from Ian Finnerty, Henry Coxe, Matt Whitehead, Darrell Stoddard, and Tom Craig, who each chipped in one.

Fayetteville took out Marco Emond after he had made zero saves and installed Kyle Rank in goal, where he finished with 27 saves and the win. The FireAntz incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Mississippi RiverKings' David Wilson stopped 35 shots out of the 41 that he faced. Mississippi RiverKings incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
