The Louisiana IceGators took the lead against the Columbus Cottonmouths in the first period and maintained it until the end of the game to secure a tight 3-1 victory. Louisiana took over the lead for good with a goal by Jeremey Boyer at 19:31 in the first period. Robert Short picked up the assist.Boyer had two goals to lead the IceGators to victory. Louisiana pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 23 penalty minutes. The 30 shots that the IceGators put on net surpassed Louisiana's average of 25.6 shots per game this season. Louisiana also got a goal from Jordan Foreman as well. Other players who recorded assists for Louisiana were Matthew Robertson, who had two and Tyler Lyon and Kevin Brojek, who each chipped in one. Columbus was below its usual level of shot production, taking 17 shots compared to the 22.6 the Cottonmouths average. Columbus was led by Mark Thorburn, who scored the team's only goal. Thorburn scored on the power play 4:24 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Columbus. The Cottonmouths earned a power play opportunity when Shawn McNeil was put in the box for hooking. Sam Bowles provided the assist. Breton Lindoff made 16 saves for the IceGators on 17 shots. Louisiana registered two goals on five power play opportunities. Andrew Loewen rejected 27 shots on goal for Columbus. The Cottonmouths totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major and went 1-for-7 on the power play.
