Festa leads Pensacola to shutout victory over Columbus

Gerry Festa recorded a shutout against the Columbus Cottonmouths as the Pensacola Ice Flyers picked up a 1-0 win.

Ryan Salvis's game-winning tally was the game's only goal. It came at 18:22 in the second period. Brandon Vossberg provided the assist.

Pensacola was paced by Salvis, who finished with one goal.

The Ice Flyers put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Columbus to score on any of its three power plays. Pensacola's defense was surprisingly good. The Ice Flyers average 2.5 goals allowed per game. With 34 shots on target during the contest, Pensacola exceeded the 21.9 shots it averages per game this year.

In addition, Pensacola received assists from Jordan Chong, who had one.

The Cottonmouths were often in penalty trouble, totaling nine minors and one major for 23 minutes in penalty time. Columbus surpassed its season average of 20.0 penalty minutes per game. The Cottonmouths' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on seven Pensacola power plays. Columbus could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Cottonmouths average 2.8 goals per game. Columbus put 25 shots on net during the contest, more than the 22.3 it averages per game.

The Cottonmouths were led by Chris Bailer, who took three shots.

Festa rejected 25 shots on goal for the Ice Flyers. Pensacola ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. Andrew Loewen recorded 33 saves for Columbus.
