Pensacola survives penalties, beats Louisiana, 6-3

The Louisiana IceGators failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Pensacola Ice Flyers shook off a number of penalties to win, 6-3.

Pensacola was paced by Ryan Raven, who tallied one goal and one assist. Raven scored on the power play 19:03 into the second period to make the score 4-3 Pensacola. A high sticking penalty on Kirk Byczynski had put the Ice Flyers on the power play. Jordan Chong picked up the assist.

Pensacola forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up six minors and one major for 37 minutes in penalty time. The Ice Flyers had been averaging 20.0 minutes in penalties per game. Pensacola found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, the Ice Flyers average 3.1 goals per contest. Pensacola capitalized on Louisiana's penalties, netting three goals while skating with a man advantage. The defensemen of the Ice Flyers were also effective in the IceGators' zone, and came away with three goals. With 34 shots on target during the contest, Pensacola exceeded the 21.4 shots it averages per game this year.

Pensacola additionally got points from Mike MacIntyre, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Pensacola also had goals scored by Jeremiah Ketts, who had two and Steve Bergin and Tyler Soehner, who scored one goal each. More assists for Pensacola came via Ron Cramer, who had one and Ryan Salvis, who had two.

Louisiana put 30 shots on net during the contest, more than the 24.0 it averages per game.

The IceGators were helped by Troy Ofukany, who had one goal. Ofukany scored 19:16 into the first period to make the score 3-2 Pensacola. Greg Brown assisted on the tally. Shawn McNeil also scored for Louisiana. In addition, Louisiana received assists from Matthew Robertson, who had one.

Gerry Festa recorded 27 saves for the Ice Flyers. Riley Gill made 28 saves for Louisiana on 33 shots. The IceGators totaled 31 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 1-for-6 on the power play.
