Ian Boots scored the clinching goal in a shootout, and the Huntsville Havoc picked up the extra point in a 3-2 (2-1 SO) win over Mississippi Surge. The shootout featured 10 attempts between both teams. Mississippi Surge got a shootout goal from Mark Versteeg-Lytwyn. Huntsville's other shootout goal was scored by Kyle Laughlin.The Havoc overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Huntsville trailed 2-0 after a goal by Mississippi Surge's Jeff Grant at 11:41 in the first period. The Havoc tied things up at 2-2 on a power play goal by Anthony Battaglia at 11:16 in the third period. Huntsville excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The 33 shots that the Havoc put on net surpassed Huntsville's average of 20.3 shots per game this season. Huntsville also got a goal from Laughlin as well. In addition, Huntsville received assists from Matt Smyth, Stuart Stefan, and Brett Liscomb, who contributed one a piece. With 25 shots on target during the contest, Mississippi Surge exceeded the 19.6 shots it averages per game this year. Mississippi Surge additionally got points from Branden Kosolofsky, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Kyle Kudroch also scored for Mississippi Surge. More assists for Mississippi Surge came via Kyle VanderMale and Trent Bonnett, who each chipped in one. Dan McWhinney made 23 saves for the Havoc on 25 shots. Huntsville incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Kiefer Smiley recorded 30 saves for Mississippi Surge. Mississippi Surge ended with 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. For Mississippi Surge, Andrew Harrison was ejected from the game.
