GAME RECAP

Fayetteville survives Augusta comeback, wins 3-2

Phoenix Refrigeration Ice    Sun, Feb 17, 2013

The Augusta RiverHawks tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the Fayetteville FireAntz would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 3-2.

A goal by John Clewlow put Fayetteville up 3-1 in the third period, but Augusta pulled to within one on Marcus Pryde's tally 19:52 into the third period.

Clewlow had a great game for the FireAntz, netting two goals.

Fayetteville put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the RiverHawks to score on any of their three power plays. The FireAntz's offense was helped by the efforts of their defensemen, who managed to put 12 shots on net during the game.

Anthony Bergin also scored for Fayetteville. In addition, Fayetteville received assists from Mike Kavanagh, Corey Toy, Josh McQuade, Andrew Smale, and Kyle Rank, who contributed one a piece.

Augusta's offense was clicking better than usual and put 24 shots on goal during the game, better than the 19.4 shots per game it averages.

Augusta also got a goal from Jesse Echternach as well. Other players who recorded assists for Augusta were Myles McCauley and Matt Auffrey, who each chipped in one.

Fayetteville's Rank stopped 22 shots out of the 24 that he faced. The FireAntz totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play. Robbie Moss rejected 25 shots on goal for the RiverHawks. Augusta ended with 35 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major.
