Fernandez's hat trick boosts Knoxville over Fayetteville, 5-1Knoxville Civic Coliseum Sat, Feb 16, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
A hat trick by Tyler Fernandez was the highlight in Ice Bears' 5-1 win against the Fayetteville FireAntz. Fernandez notched his first tally 6:51 into the first period. He then added goals at 1:01 into the third and at 9:17 into the third.Fayetteville was stymied by the Knoxville Ice Bears netminder Connor Toomey, who stopped 40 shots during the victory. Toomey managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.63 prior to the game. Knoxville averages 27.6 shots on goal per game, but only sent 16 pucks on net against the FireAntz. Knoxville also got points from Shaun Arvai, who also registered one goal and one assist and Brendan Taylor, who also tallied one goal and one assist. More assists for Knoxville came via Nate Peterson, who had one, Emery Olauson, who had three, and Peter Neal and Eric Satim, who each chipped in two. Fayetteville racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with four minors and three majors for 23 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 14.0 minutes per game the FireAntz had been spending in the box. Fayetteville could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The FireAntz put an average of 3.3 pucks into the net per game. Fayetteville forced the Ice Bears goalie Toomey to work between the pipes, taking 41 shots. Knoxville totaled 21 minutes in penalty time with three minors and three majors and went 1-for-3 on the power play. Kyle Rank recorded 11 saves for the FireAntz. Fayetteville registered zero goals on two power play opportunities.
