Huntsville falls to Mississippi Surge in overtime, 4-3 (OT)

Mississippi Surge pulled out a 4-3 (OT) overtime victory over the Huntsville Havoc on a clutch goal by Trent Bonnett.

Jeff Grant had a great game for Mississippi Surge, netting two goals. Grant scored on the power play at 9:34 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Mississippi Surge and again while 56 seconds into the second to make the score 2-0 Mississippi Surge.

By firing 31 shots on goal, Mississippi Surge exceeded the 19.8 shots it averages per game this year.

Mississippi Surge also got points from Joe Harcharik, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Mississippi Surge were Adam Stuart and Branden Kosolofsky, who each chipped in one and Kevin Hamel and Nathan Oke, who contributed two a piece.

Huntsville put 29 shots on net during the contest, more than the 19.9 it averages per game. The Havoc could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 22 minutes in penalties during the game.

Huntsville was led by Anthony Battaglia, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Battaglia scored 15:41 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Chapen LeBlond picked up the assist. Huntsville additionally got points from Kyle Laughlin, who also had one goal and one assist. Huntsville also got a goal from Nick Lazorko as well. More assists for Huntsville came via Ian Boots, Aaron McGill, and Corey Fulton, who each chipped in one.

Kiefer Smiley recorded 26 saves for Mississippi Surge. Mississippi Surge totaled 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors and went 2-for-7 on the power play. Dan McWhinney rejected 27 shots on goal for the Havoc. Huntsville registered one goal on two power play opportunities.
