Mississippi RiverKings falls to Louisiana after surprising comeback

The Louisiana IceGators rallied from three goals down to secure a 4-3 win over Mississippi RiverKings.

Louisiana never led in the game until netting the game winner. The IceGators fell behind 3-0 after a goal by Mississippi RiverKings' Kory Helowka at 48 seconds in the second period. Louisiana tied things up at 3-3 on a goal by Kirk Byczynski at 3:51 in the third period. The IceGators scored the game winner on the power play at 5:56 in the third period on a goal by Byczynski.

Byczynski had two goals to lead Louisiana to victory.

The IceGators excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Louisiana's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals. The IceGators' offense was clicking better than usual and put 36 shots on goal during the game, better than the 23.1 shots per game they average.

Louisiana also got points from Shawn McNeil, who also tallied one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Louisiana also got a goal from Marc Andre Carre as well. In addition, Louisiana received assists from Josh Duplantis, who had two and Kevin Brojek, Matthew Robertson, Matt Lawrance, and Troy Ofukany, who contributed one a piece.

By firing 25 shots on goal, Mississippi RiverKings exceeded the 15.1 shots it averages per game this year.

Mississippi RiverKings was helped by Matt Harrington, who registered one goal. Harrington scored 17 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Mississippi RiverKings. Mike MacDonald assisted on the tally. Mississippi RiverKings additionally got points from Helowka, who also finished with one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Kevin Willer also scored for Mississippi RiverKings. Other players who recorded assists for Mississippi RiverKings were Ian Finnerty, Chris Campanale, and Matt Whitehead, who each chipped in one.

Riley Gill rejected 22 shots on goal for Louisiana. The IceGators incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. David Wilson recorded 32 saves for Mississippi RiverKings. Mississippi RiverKings incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
