Raven's goals lift Pensacola to 2-1 victory over Mississippi SurgePensacola Bay Center Tue, Feb 12, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Pensacola Ice Flyers relied on the scoring touch of Ryan Raven, who netted two goals, to beat Mississippi Surge, 2-1. Raven found the back of the net 40 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Pensacola and again while 2:26 into the third to make the score 2-1 Pensacola.Mississippi Surge was stymied by Pensacola netminder Ross MacKinnon, who stopped 28 shots during the victory. MacKinnon certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 1.95 entering the contest. The Ice Flyers pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 14 penalty minutes. With 32 shots on target during the contest, Pensacola exceeded the 21.0 shots it averages per game this year. In addition, Pensacola received assists from Ryan Salvis, who had two and Jordan Chong and Mike MacIntyre, who each chipped in one. Mississippi Surge's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Pensacola power plays. Mississippi Surge's offense was clicking better than usual and put 29 shots on goal during the game, better than the 19.1 shots per game it averages. Mississippi Surge was led by Kevin Hamel, who scored the team's only goal. Hamel scored on the power play 6:49 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Mississippi Surge had taken the advantage when the Ice Flyers' Dylan Gilbert got sent off for interference. Adam Stuart provided the assist. Kiefer Smiley rejected 30 shots on goal for Mississippi Surge. Mississippi Surge incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
