Augusta squeaks by Mississippi Surge, 4-2Mississippi Coast Coliseum Fri, Feb 08, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Augusta RiverHawks gutted out a close 4-2 win against Mississippi Surge. Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Taylor McReynolds secured the win for Augusta with a goal in the third period. The RiverHawks were led by Joe Schiller, who tallied one goal. Schiller scored 5:34 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Augusta. Matt Auffrey picked up the assist. The defensemen of Augusta were also effective in Mississippi Surge's zone, and came away with two goals. The RiverHawks put 33 shots on net during the contest, more than the 19.4 they average per game. Drew Baker also scored for Augusta. More assists for Augusta came via Jason Price, Kyle Watson, and Alex Morton, who each chipped in one. Mississippi Surge forced Augusta goalie Robbie Moss to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots. Mississippi Surge was helped by Branden Kosolofsky, who registered one goal. Kosolofsky scored 11:26 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Jay Silvia provided the assist. Mississippi Surge also got a goal from Joe Harcharik as well. In addition, Mississippi Surge received assists from Mark Pawlowski, Kyle VanderMale, and Mark Versteeg-Lytwyn, who contributed one a piece. Robbie Moss made 34 saves for the RiverHawks on 36 shots. Augusta totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play. Kiefer Smiley rejected 29 shots on goal for Mississippi Surge. Mississippi Surge totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 1-for-5 on the power play.
