Louisiana squeaks by Mississippi RiverKings, 4-2Landers Center Fri, Feb 08, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Louisiana IceGators gutted out a close 4-2 win against Mississippi RiverKings. Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Shawn McNeil secured the win for Louisiana with a goal in the second period. Troy Ofukany was all over the ice for the IceGators, as he had two goals in the win. Ofukany's tallies came on the power play at 5:14 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Louisiana and 6:52 into the third to make the score 4-2 Louisiana. Louisiana excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The IceGators put 28 shots on net during the contest, more than the 19.7 they average per game. Louisiana also got a goal from Matthew Robertson as well. Other players who recorded assists for Louisiana were Marc Andre Carre, who had two and Clark Byczynski, Tyler Lyon, Matt Miller, and Cody Zubko, who each chipped in one. With 25 shots on target during the contest, Mississippi RiverKings exceeded the 16.6 shots it averages per game this year. Mississippi RiverKings was helped by Matt Whitehead, who tallied one goal. Whitehead scored 14:07 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Louisiana. Todd Hosmer picked up the assist. Brian Yanovitch also scored for Mississippi RiverKings. More assists for Mississippi RiverKings came via Matt Harrington and Chris Campanale, who contributed one a piece. Louisiana's Riley Gill stopped 23 shots out of the 25 that he faced. The IceGators incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Matthew Krahn recorded 24 saves for Mississippi RiverKings. Mississippi RiverKings incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
